Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd has developed a textile recycling scheme specifically for schools and colleges.
A variety of teaching resources including a DVD featuring Chris Tarrant and Gary Lineker, posters and publicity ideas are available in our ‘schools pack’. The pack is designed to help boost recycling in schools and colleges whilst raising awareness of the importance of textile recycling and its impact on the environment.
Once signed up, schools and colleges will be provided with clothing bags to be distributed to pupils to take home and returned to school on an agreed day for collection, eg once a term. We will provide a financial incentive for every tonne collected (market forces permitting). Schools and colleges can choose to spend the monies they raise either on donations to good causes in the local community or resources for their establishment.
If you would like to discuss the scheme with teaching staff, we have produced a short promotional film about the scheme for teachers, parents and governors.
A copy of the DVD featuring Chris and Gary is available on request. At eight minutes long, it is aimed at pupils and is ideal for use in assemblies or as a teaching aid.
How the clothing collection scheme works
1. Schools contact the Salvation Army Trading Company via e-mail to register for the scheme and organise collections.
2. Media and PR support can be arranged by emailing the Salvation Army Trading Company press office team .
3. Statistics of the amount collected will be made available to the school and to the relevant local authority.
